November 28, 2004, early afternoon
Overcast, windy, drizzly, then full rain during the last quarter of our walk. Long talk with Ranger Jean. Post 345 has a good example of mushrooms that are continuing to grow in spite of the cold. Reddish brown, growing out of a stump. Colorful ducks, red/chocolate heads, white backs (Canvas Backs according to RJ's bird book) hanging around the pond. Probably a short rest before heading south. Black mushrooms not seen before--post 187. We discussed the possibility of burying Cassady at the pond, then retrieving her bones and reassembling them for the local elementary school.
